Post #53.1 : The Story: Building Resilience 2020

Building Resilience 2020

Building Resilience is the #SDG story of Quality Education in Kamla Nehru Public School which is situated in a nondescript village Chak Hakim, Phagwara in India. The school caters to first generation learners belonging to 65 villages. The families are into agriculture, and some of them have also moved abroad to greener pastures to provide better living standards for their children.

Kamla Nehru Public School is a Microsoft Showcase School. Our Remote Team work led to Building Resilience and work for Quality Education- SDG4.

During Pandemic COVID_19 there was no lock down for learning in our school. We used Microsoft Teams for our Remote Learning. “Well began is half done”, they say. We planned in December 2019. Teacher's training was conducted in January 2020. During parent's training of Kindergarten to Grade 3 in February 2020, we helped them to download Microsoft Teams app and explained the features too. Grade 4 to Grade 8 were already using Microsoft Teams App in the Classrooms. We went for training of students from Grade to 12, who were not hands on Teams App.

We were all set to start.

Our Remote Team work led to Building Resilience and in turn achieve Quality Education SDG4. Tablets, Laptops, Desktops, Mobiles, we educators used all devices. We then had mock sessions and started Remote Learning classes for K-12 students from 2nd April 2020.

Leave No One behind for SDG 4 Quality Education is what we believed in. The result of our community outreach was the participation of:

·       Students of 4 CBSE Hub Schools.

·       157 Education leaders in the inaugural session.

· 23 Students from around the country joined our Remote Learning Classes.

We worked for #SDG target 4.c, when Remote Team work led to empowerment of educators in 2020. Today in our Team we have:

·       85 Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts

·       85 Adobe Creative Educators

·       29 Microsoft Certified Educators

·       25 SDG Ambassadors

·       30 Microsoft Office Specialist

 ·       04 Adobe Certified Associate

We worked for #SDG target 4.7 when students of Grade 11 &12 were engaged to promote Sustainable Development in an Online Panel Discussion on 5th May 2020 “Jobs at Risk during Covid-19". We joined United Nations Office of Drugs & Crime (UNODC) Lockdown learner Series.

Followed by Students of Grade 9 &10 participating in online Paper Presentation on 9th May 2020, on “Covid_19: Impact on Human Rights, Peace and Rule of Law”. Self-compose Rap songs session “Rappers Delight” was also a part of UNODC lock down learner series.

Practiced SDG4 Quality Education when during Microsoft Global Connect on 10th and 11th November  2020 we visited 646 Global Classrooms in 47 countries, in 48 hours using Microsoft Teams. This was possible because of Building Resilience.

Remote Team work was all about SDG4. It was all about Reinventing Learning. It was all about office hours. A session student had 1:1 with the teacher to clear doubts after the regular online remote classes.

Building Resilience was all about Flexible, Friendly, Extended Evaluation. Quizlet, Flipgrid, Wavelet, Nearpod, Minecraft, Adobe Spark, Microsoft Forms, Slido, PowerPoint, Sway and Padlet, we used all tools for evaluation, an exercise for IT skills enhancement of the students.

Principal’s Remote meeting with K-12 students and their families was all about Building Resilience and thus Building Team Remotely. Daily staff well-being call was for Building Resilience amongst my beloved educators. What were the challenges today in my classroom? How can we support each other? Which IT solution for challenges during remote learning? Which innovation did you use in the classroom for student‘s engagement?  How can I help you? We discussed all.

Daily remote Class Teacher-Students Well-Being Call:

Was all about Team Building

Was all about Building Resilience amongst the students

Was all about Social and Emotional well-being of the students.

We Practice, Preach and Promote SDGs in our School. We had a virtual Global day celebration from 18th-26th September 2020. Good nine days Online SDG Celebrations! A new event every day. Mentioning three of them:

·       Comic Attack- was preparing a comic strip on what a specific goal is about. We used PowToon app for this.

·  Let's write Quatrain, a four-line poem on the favorite Goal, Students of Grade 7 to 12 tweeted a lot, for juniors the teachers tweeted their Quatrain.

·   SDG Ramp walk for K-12 students was a community outreach program for SDG advocacy. The parents joined the ramp walk in their houses, students wore the dresses of the color of the goal they advocated and held the goal placard. Event was very popular.

Remote Team work led to a feather in our cap, we are International winners of Global Minecraft
Championship2020. Students from 61 countries  participated in the championship. 1266 students' entries were there and the event was judged by 105 judges.

Some more achievements of 2020:

·       Microsoft Showcase 2020-21

·       Wakelet School 2020-21

·       Adobe National Winner in adoption of Creativity

All thanks to my beloved team of educators at Kamla Nehru Public School for these achievements.
